Entertain Clients with Wellness

Traditionally, client entertainment has involved going out for large meals, consuming alcohol and staying out late.  While this is enjoyable from time to time, it can leave you feeling exhausted and a little stretched in the waistline when done too often.

Having worked in the finance industry for many years, both my business partner and myself experienced first-hand, the physical effects of this style of client entertaining.  We would go to bed with a full belly, wake up full and fatigued.  Somehow we would make it into the office only to sit at a desk for 8+ hours while trying to digest the previous evening.  While we love our clients and enjoy spending time with them, the post event hangover and physical discomfort that ensues is not ideal.

Having the Asian gene that doesn’t allow me to consume alcohol, I would often say “no thank you” whenever drinks were being offered or wine was being served.  I cannot tell you how many times a colleague or client was relieved I didn’t drink and either joined me for an alcohol-free meal or had a drink or two rather than engaging in an all-night drinking competition.  It is also common for many to go to the gym for a “quick workout” before going to a client event.  Having sat for most of the day, it becomes necessary to move the body and possibly lessen the guilt of sitting for several hours more and consuming a large meal.

It seems like the traditional way of entertaining clients is becoming less desirable.  So why is it so ingrained in our culture?  Perhaps it’s time to think and act outside of the box and change the way we entertain clients so everyone can spend an enjoyable time together and still feel great the next morning.

For clients who enjoy being active, below are some ideas for group wellness activities that involve movement.  There are several gyms clubs and studios that will accommodate private events for larger groups or for one-on-one or smaller group meetings, you can attend a class together.

  • Hatha or Vinyasa Yoga
  • Spinning
  • Fitness Class
  • Running Workout
  • Squash
  • Ping Pong or Foosball tournaments
  • Curling Bonspiel
  • Team sports challenge like basketball, floor hockey and baseball

For group wellness activities that require less movement, ask your clients if they would be interested in experiencing one of the following:

A healthy lunch or dinner following your group wellness activity is a perfect way to round out your time together and will leave everyone feeling more alert, clear-minded, relaxed and well.

If you want to invite more wellness into your work life and have like-minded clients, we urge you to break tradition, think and act outside of the box, and entertain your clients with wellness!  If you are interested in planning a private group wellness event for your employees or clients, please contact us at [email protected] and we would be delighted to assist!
