“Movement” in Movement Travel
“Movement” in Movement Travel
It took us several months to choose our company name. We wanted a word that encompassed being active, traveling to different places and embracing new ideas and ways of doing things. One day, I received a message from Lisa that said, “how about Movement Travel?” It immediately resonated with me, as it did with her. That day, Movement Travel, was born.
Movement can mean many different things but the three definitions from the Oxford Dictionary that represents what our company is about are as follows:
- An act of changing physical location or position or of having this changed.
- A change or development.
- A group of people working together to advance their shared political, social, or artistic ideas.
We will leave out the 5th definition which has to do with certain bodily movements which happened to be the first thing both my mother and partner thought of when we told them the name of our company!
Definition 1. Is the movement from one physical location to another, or, in other words, travel. It also refers to changing a physical position and we like to think of this as inviting physical movement into our bodies. Physically moving our bodies is important to both of us in our everyday lives. Whether it’s running, hiking, weight training, practicing yoga or even walking the dog, we try to move as much as we can. As many already know, studies have come out saying that sitting for prolonged periods of time is very unhealthy!
Definition 2. Refers to a change or development. For us, we like to think of this definition as an evolutionary process. We believe in living our lives in a way where we are constantly changing and hopefully evolving into a more balanced, well-rounded and enriched individual. We are always asking ourselves how we can be better, feel better and do better and make the necessary changes in our lives to move towards that goal. It’s about looking back and honoring where we came from but being in a steady state of moving forward.
Definition 3. Is about a collective working together to share an idea and for us, we want help spread the concept of wellness travel and wellness in the workplace and make it accessible to more people and businesses. Wellness travel is becoming more popular especially with the explosion of yoga retreats in the last several years. It’s not surprising seeing how more people wish to stay active, engaged and healthy during their vacation. However, many people don’t have time to plan an in-depth travel itinerary so a retreat, where most things have been planned, is a wonderful alternative. That is the need that Movement Travel would like to fill. We want to make wellness travel easy and accessible to anyone interested in this inspired way of travelling.
We also want to help businesses incorporate more wellness into their cultures. Having both worked for large corporations, we may have continued working if our former employers promoted more wellness in the workplace. Many employees feel the same way, especially the younger generations who strive to live more balanced lifestyles. Studies have shown that healthier and less stressed employees are more productive. It’s a win-win situation when both employees and employers embrace wellness in the workplace.
Hopefully when you see or hear Movement Travel, you will have a better understanding of who we are, what we believe in and what our movement is about.
